A Bitcoin wallet containing around 15 million and a half dollars worth of Bitcoin (BTC) has awakened from its slumber after eight years of inactivity. It was not used since 2013 and the owner of the wallet is unknown, nor why it was reactivated on Tuesday.
In the last year of using the wallet, its total value was $ 6,590 and the funds have multiplied about 2,380 times.
The causes that led to the activation of the wallet could be different. For example, the holder may have found the passphrase that he had forgotten for years; or someone may have devised an exploit to identify the seed phrases of old wallets, they are awakening.
Precisely with regard to this latest hypothesis we must take into account that in recent months, many Bitcoin wallets inactive between 2011 and 2013 have been reactivated. Each contained tens of millions of dollars in Bitcoin. Just on September 19th, the owner of a dormant Bitcoin wallet emptied his account by transferring all 616 BTC to different accounts. And it has happened often since the beginning of the year.
