Samuel Dobson has announced his resignation as a developer of Bitcoin Core after three years of activity, because he can no longer dedicate the necessary time, due to the study time consumed by his doctorate. He announced it on Thursday with tweets explaining the situation.
I am officially stepping down as a maintainer of Bitcoin Core. Serving as the wallet maintainer for the past three years has been an absolute privilege, and I want to thank my incredibly generous sponsor John Pfeffer (@jlppfeffer) for his support throughout. /1
I’m sad to leave the role, but can no longer dedicate the time required, as I approach the end of my PhD. It is only because of John and my GitHub sponsors’ support that I was able to prioritise working on Bitcoin part-time these last few years. But now is the right time to go./2
Dobson was maintainer of the Bitcoin Core wallet, and had direct access to the cryptocurrency code on GitHub, with permission to approve the changes and make improvements to the first cryptocurrency’s software. He was also responsible for ensuring the security of the protocol.
At conclusion of his farewell, Dobson made another appeal to any person or company that benefits in any way from the development of Bitcoin, asking them to consider supporting development financially, due to the difficulty of surviving open source projects, to also help. without the development skills. It may not be goodbye, as Dobson hopes this is not the end of his Bitcoin development journey, as he tweets, saying he is anxious to see how it turns out.
